ES-isms.

"Don't look so outraged. You know you would've said it sooner or later if I hadn't."

"Thanks for the letter, and the map! Now I know that New York is in fact, in New York. And Cornell is up in da boonies with no AMTRAK line...heh heh heh."

"Nice things are nicer when you own them."

"Fine. Go ahead and feel bad about it then."

Estelle, on ES' visit to NYC: "He didn't see MOMA. He doesn't care what Central Park looks like. But he spent lots of money and bought lots of things, and he thinks it's been one of his best vacations ever."

Initials are a great way of abbreviating names. Also, they score points when a friend accuses you of ruining his/her reputation (WZH, SL, LCW etc last year) you can honestly say you were trying to protect their anonymity.

So!

CHIKU Part Deux (c. f. CW's blog), meant for Jn and A in particular because we're trying to spread the story to the West Coast.

YX, holding up a kiwifruit (imagine Hamlet and skull - he - meaning YX - was going to launch into the most grandiloquent speech of his lifetime): "When you have every meal with a chiku -"

(Silence.)

(Table bursts out laughing. Meaning the people around the table, not the table lah.)

It's not exactly Alas, poor Yorick! But who are we to judge. I think this was funnier. Manymany ZE points for YX!

Tips from the friendly Cornell community centers. Centres. Whatever.

Question: I have three final exams and a huge final paper, all due in the same week! I’m freaking out about all of this work and am completely stressed out – is there anything available on campus to help me relax?

Answer: That definitely is a lot of work for one week, but here are some suggestions about how to combat stress and get through (and you will get through) finals:
§ Make a schedule for yourself. Make sure top priority things get done first and have your full attention. § Schedule short study breaks. Give yourself a ten-minute break (to go for a walk or call a friend from home) for every hour to an hour and a half of studying. This willgive your brain a rest and you’ll be more productive.
§ Make sure you get plenty of sleep. The more tired you are, the harder it is to concentrate and studying will take even longer. (Given the almost linear relationship between # of Starbucks doubleshot espressos downed and cumulative GPA, I know people who could give this Agony Aunt, and my PSYCH101 prof, a run for her money.)
§ Study with people from different majors. Studying with people who aren’t all stressing out about the same subject may help you feel less stressed. (Something that I agree wholeheartedly. At the risk of sounding like a grinch, don't study with anyone at all! Pain isn't something meant to be spread around.)
§ Keep things in perspective! This is only one week of your life, and while these finals are important, they aren’t everything. (HA! They have no idea.) Try to do your best and look forward to the upcoming winter break.

On a totally random and unrelated note (well not totally since this week is study week after all), I just realised how interesting philosophy class is! I mean. It was cool sitting in on Mr B's ad hoc Philosophy-For-Dummies (PKA the Oxbridge prep class) crash course last year in LT5, but military philosophy is so, profound. I should stop rambling on before I start sounding like an idiot.
So! Bottom line = although I've fallen asleep in 80% of GOVT194/PHIL294 lectures the rest of the time is for breakfasting at the Temple of Zeus outside the LT, things that I catch in between mouthfuls of muffin and temporary awakenings between stage 3 and stage 4 slow-wave sleep (yes I studied for PSYCH101! Woohoo!) really make you think. Imagine what it would've been like if I'd paid attention.
