Oooh I love this poem. It's so cute. Did it for some horrid choral recitation thing at a Lit Symposium at RI where we lost (>_<) to TCHS. Fun facts: Karin and ZH were presenting there, can't remember on what, though:)
MORALITIES by WH Auden
In the First Age the frogs dwelt
At peace in their pond: they paddled about,
Flies they caught and fat grew.
Courts they knew not, nor kings, nor servants,
No laws they had, nor police, nor jails.
All were equal, happy together.
The days went by in an unbroken calm:
Bored they grew, ungrateful for
Their good-luck, began to murmur
Higgledy-Piggledy,
What our Society
Needs is more Discipline,
Form and Degree
Nobody wants to live
Anachronistically:
Lions have a hierarchy,
Why shouldn't we?
To mighty Jove on his jeweled throne
Went the Frog-Folk, the follish people:
Thus they cried in chorus together.
Hickory-Dockery,
Greatest Olympian
Graciously grant the petition we bring.
Life as we know it is
Unsatisfacotry
We want a Monarchy
Give us a King!
Foolish children, your choice is unwise
But so be it: go back and wait.
Into their ponds from the heavens above,
WIth a splendid splash that sprayed them all,
Something fell, then floated around.
From the edge of their pong in awe they gazed,
The Frog-Folk, the foolish people:
Words they awaited, but no words came.
He has no legs. He has no head.
Is he dumb? Is he deaf? Is he blind? Is he dead?
It's not a man. It's not a frog.
Why, it's nothing but a rotten old log!
Silly stump, watch me jump!
Tee-hee-hee, you can't catch me!
Boo to you! Boo! Boo! Boo!
Back to Jove on his jeweled throne
Went the Frog-Folk, the foolish people:
Thus they cried in chorus together.
Jiggery-Pokery,
Jove, you've insulted the
Feelings of every
Sensitive frog:
What we demand is a
Plenipotentiary
Sovereign, not an in-
animate log.
By the hard way must the unwise learn.
SO be it: go back and wait.
On their pond from the heavens above,
Cruel-beaked, a crane alighted.
Fierce, ravenous, a frog-eater.
Doom was upon them, Dread seized
The Frog-Folk, the foolish people:
They tried to escape. It was too late.
If people are too dumb to know when all is well with them,
The gods shrug their shoulders and say: - To Hell with them.

Finally finally finally.
Return of the King today with Clar! Yay it's gorgeous, or as Estelle said, captivating:) Except for minor distractions like a) damn Legolas is so pretty, b) sirens going off and a red neon sign screaming "AGENT SMITH" in my head whenever Elrond/Hugo Weaving comes onscreen, c) gee doesn't Frodo look like Boy George from Culture Club, and d) oh man oh man the elves' costumes are lovely:) There was other stuff going through my head during some parts of the movie, like when Sam and Frodo were having a sentimental tete-a-tete near Mount Doom, but I'll leave that for another time. I love
Lord of the Rings.
Haha I seem to have hoodwinked myself into believing that I've had very constructive hols, until, after talking it over with Lynette and Clar today, I realised that, other than TAG, SATs and
Hamlet, everything else I've wasted my time on has been of no consequence. >__<;; Oh of course. Christmas cards weren't really a waste of my time, love writing 'em:)
I WANNA WATCH SCARY MOVIE 3!:):):)

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODYYYYY!
Yay so Singapore Post didn't fail me after all. Postmen-on-bikes aren't on strike:)
Mel: Holla if you haven't got yours yet!
Kai: Sorry pal. Next year, I promise. All the ex-NYPS guys in HC, all three of you, just before you go to NS:)
ZH: If you haven't chugged the Bacardi and Hooch I want it=) If you have, hope you got drunk=)
Pet: OK you win. Thanks for the card. Love ya to bits.
Cat: I've unearthed Galbraith's
The Affluent Society. Sounds like an NDP theme, dunnit? Should show it to Johnny. I'm going to read it after I get through
Macbeth and
Lear and
Tess and
Dalloway and Wilde and
Wuthering Heights and... Oh f- it.
Yay. Am watching ROTK and
School of Rock tomorrow. I'm in desperate need of laughter therapy, which is why I miss going to school and seeing all of you. Not that I'm depressed or screwed up (like the narrator in The Bell Jar), but life gets a lil' dry without all you people. Feel flattered! :)
I'm addicted to Dilbert. Check out the Comic-of-the-Day for December 25th. Hilarious, and reminded me of something.

BYOB was a tad disappointing, 'cos I had no booze:( ZH ended up carrying our stash (or what was left of it) back to his beachfront pad 'cos we didn't have a bottle-opener and didn't have the guts to ask the Fullerton staff to open them for us. Haha now that I think of it, it's pretty loser. We 15ers always manage to do such stupid things:)
Anyways, it was a party of five 'cos Pet had mass (if you're reading this YOU ARE SUCH A CHEAPO! Even Cat spent money on postage!) Dinner at Cafe Cartel.
Soundbite -
Serene, pointing to ZH's chicken-and-veggies-on-the-side dish: "
You know, if you take away the chicken and (points at something else I can't remember),
you're left with Alex's usual dinner (gestures to carrot sticks and about 2 peas)."
And then it was off to the Fullerton to watch choir carolling. It was really good, but since I write about funny things... I'll only say that ES should take his mother's advice and smile more. It's good for the soul:)
Soundbite -
(We were at the top of the staircase overlooking this pond full of koi)
Alex, on seeing guy with plastic bag chock-full of Filet-O-Fish: "
Ooooh. So many fish filets. I'm hungry."
Me, stupidly thinking he was talking about the fish swimming in the pond: "
Eww... I must say I've never seen anyone get hungry by looking at koi."
And as such the BYOB drew to an end, and happily or unhappily, nobody got drunk, except for Jo getting tipsy on a half-bottle of
Jolly Shandy apple cider. Oops. You didn't hear it from me. Jo never got drunk. She holds her alcohol as well as, er, Prince William.

I'd never thought I'd be saying this, but I actually like reading
Macbeth.
Haha fun fact of the day- Macbeth of Scotland ruled from 1040 to 1057.
Macbeth is a true story. Or half-true, 'cos Will Shakespeare changed a good bit of it.
Macbeth was edited by... wait for it...
Thomas "Women-are-evil" Middleton.
James I of England (after Elizabeth I), formerly James-dunnowhat of Scotland, can trace his lineage to Banquo. The prophecy lives! ;)
Screw
Othello. And National Income Accounting with it. And the Japanese Occupation.

Ooooooh to everyone on my TagBoard now... Please please tell me if you've got my cards by tomorrow (Christmas Eve)... I don't think anyone's got them:(:(:(
If nobody gets my cards I'll boycott Singapore Post and next year you'll all get e-cards or something.
Yay BOYB at Cat's tomorrow.
2 days to Christmas! Haha I feel like Johnny counting down to NDP.

Hahaha.
I love friends with a good sense of humour.
~Summer Joy~On the 23rd day of December~ says:
I look pretty slim, that's gd
On the other hand, I have friends who're convinced I'll end up as a deranged psychopath.
kaisiang: but i can't be anything right says:
it's just that i don't want you pointing accusing fingers at me when you start killing people on the streets due to deep mental imbalances
@10:09 AM
Lovely shots from China:)
Kunming Lake in the Summer Palace. This is where I'm skating after As!:)
Cheng Wei and, erm, her best friend?;)
Oooh lookie. The Chairman's portrait at Tiananmen.
Gorgeous! Possibly my fave photo of the palace. Innit great to be king?
Haha I think this is my favourite of the lot!

Friendster's made my Hate List. It ate up this lovely testimonial I wrote. >_<
From ZH to (bored) A15ers: Anyone for Christmas Eve party? ES is apparently hosting a birthday bash on NYE, and probably won't approve of us thrashing the Teo residence just before Christmas:) Wait. Anyone volunteering to host the darned thing?
Out with it. Who watched ROTK without me? :(
@2:47 AM
